The story

What is the Moro Arc?

The Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga — usually called the Moro Arc — is the first major story the manga told after the Tournament of Power, and the first arc drawn by Toyotaro as the primary successor to Akira Toriyama's outlines. It has never been animated until now.

The premise: an ancient sorcerer named Moro escapes the Galactic Prison. He is known as the Planet Eater because he can drain the life energy out of entire worlds. Majin Buu is kidnapped, Goku and Vegeta are drawn in, and the Z-Fighters end up working alongside the Galactic Patrol, the force charged with keeping order across the universe.

The arc also brings Merus, a Galactic Patrol member with a significant role in Goku's development, and gives Jaco a much larger part than he has had before. Tonally it shifts Dragon Ball toward full space opera — interplanetary travel, cosmic stakes and a villain whose threat is measured in planets rather than punch-ups.

Because the manga arc is already complete, Toei can plan the adaptation without filler — one reason the studio has said it wants to prioritise quality over speed here.

Where it fits

How The Galactic Patrol follows Beerus

The 2026 Beerus series and this one are different kinds of project, and knowing which is which clears up most of the confusion.

Dragon Ball Super: BeerusDragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol
Type Enhanced remake of the 2015 anime Brand-new animation
Material God of Destruction Beerus Saga (already animated once) Moro Arc (never animated before)
When Airing now — premiered October 11, 2026 Late 2027
Episodes 19 (season run, Oct 2026 – Feb 2027) TBA, estimated 25–26
Continuity Re-tells earlier events with new footage Continues forward from the Tournament of Power

Toei has described the Beerus remaster as the first step in a broader refresh of the Super anime, with the Golden Frieza Saga expected to follow at roughly six episodes. Whether that lands inside the current 19-episode run or after it has not been officially confirmed — see the full upcoming slate.

FAQ

Galactic Patrol questions

When is Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol release date?

Toei has given a late 2027 window. The exact premiere date has not been announced, and given how early we still are, it is the kind of detail that usually lands 6–9 months ahead of broadcast — so expect firmer news in 2027.

Is this a remake like Beerus?

No. Beerus re-cuts the 2015 anime's opening arc with new footage and re-recorded dialogue. The Galactic Patrol is new animation of material that has only ever existed in the manga.

How many episodes will it be?

Not announced. The Moro Arc runs about 26 manga chapters (42–67), which is why 25–26 episodes is the estimate most outlets land on. That would also match Toei's shift toward seasonal, ~25-episode runs on other long-running titles.

Do I need to watch Dragon Ball Super: Beerus first?

No. The Galactic Patrol continues from the Tournament of Power, which the 2015 anime already covered. Beerus is a remake of earlier material, so it's optional context rather than a prerequisite.

Where will it stream?

Unannounced. Crunchyroll and Netflix are carrying Dragon Ball Super: Beerus in 2026, so both are plausible candidates, but Toei has confirmed nothing for this series yet.
